67 Blankets Ambassadors
Overall Purpose of an Ambassador
To support the further growth of the initiative and help us to achieve our strategic goal of increasing the reach and scale of our programmes. 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day looks to establish a strong network of enthusiastic individuals, acting as Ambassadors (both young and older), throughout South Africa and the rest of the world.
For your local Drop-off Points, please refer to your local ambassador.
How can you help?
There are a number of ways in which you can get involved:
By starting to knit or crochet
We accept completed blankets, squares, and scarves.
By donating wool, hooks, and needles
We have many willing people just waiting to make up blankets, but some of these people cannot afford the materials. No donation is too small! There are many people that have the “will but not the wool.” You can purchase our 67 Blankets wool here.
We do not accept cash donations
To make an EFT donation please visit our Donations Page and consult our donations policy.
Adopt a knitter
Partner with someone who has the skills but not the means to buy the necessary materials. Schools and old age homes are really good places to support.
Responsibilities of an Ambassador
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Promote and develop the charity for it to grow and maintain its relevance.
- Actively recruit and inspire KnitWits™ for Madiba” who are the lifeblood of this initiative. It is our KnitWits who give of their time and financial resources to craft the beautiful hand-made blankets that are so integral to our cause.
- Actively seek introductions to possible corporate partners, high net worth individuals and others to sponsor the yarn that is required to get more KnitWits™, who do not have the financial means to participate.
- Make use of personal and external networks to help raise awareness of the brand.
- Plan and schedule networking events that enable KnitWits™ to socialize on a regular basis.
- Attend events on behalf of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, network and speak knowledgeably about the brand where appropriate.
- Set up suitable collection and distribution points for all blankets in their region.
- Select deserving charities to be recipients for the blankets created and collected in their region.
- Arrange for the delivery of blankets to other regions for events when required. Examples of this would be Nelson Mandela Day, the display at the Union Buildings and any other future events as deemed appropriate by Carolyn Steyn.
- To keep the KnitWits™ in the designated regions informed.
